"So I played this recital last night in a little town on the Hudson.
Anyway there was a little small town reception afterwards, consisting mostly of cookies and punch, at which I talked with a few folks. One guy was totally impressed with the violin and was asking me about what it was, where it was from, etc. I explained to him about the whole loan thing, anonymous donor, etc. and I said I was very lucky, and then he said, "Well, I guess we had better just keep on eating lots of ketchup!"
Okay, I was totally bewildered, I admit, but being in post concert tired but polite mode I just figured it was some new expression for people in Scarborough, NY. I laughed politely, if confusedly, and said "right" or something.
So later, on the train back, I was noticing some rather funny typos in the program. One of the better ones was "Canadian-bore Lara St John." As I reached the end of my bio, I noticed that in the sentence which says "violin from Anonymous Donor and Heinl and Co. of Toronto", it was spelled "Heinz and Co." The comment became clear. Yes, I play on the "ex-Condiment" Guadagnini!
